Wind Power
Currently ,Pakistan is
generating only 150 MW of electricity through wind. According to a USAID
research report , conducted in 2012 ,
Pakistan has potential to generate 150,000 MW of electricity by wind-only. it
was cited in same report that speed of wind in Sindh corridor is 7.5-7.9 m/s
where as that in most part of the world ranges from 6.5 to 6.9 m/sec.
Our neighbor India is
producing 24000 MW from wind which is greater than that of Pakistan's total
power generating capacity.
Our Political leaders lack
will and for-sighted vision in solving energy issue . Recently , we have
announced to built nuclear plants in Karachi despite the threats posed by these
plants to Environment and to Population in case of an accident . World is
switching toward safer and environmental friendly sources of energy. we are
still using and relying on old techniques i.e Coal, Petroleum ,Nuclear rental
plants etc.
What about the AEDB (Alternate Energy Development Board) plan to
generate 3000 MW till 2015? the non-serious attitude of our Political leadership
is leading us to no where.
if we ponder over the wind
energy with serious intentions, not only the problem of Energy crisis would be
solved but also the burden of Oil import will also decrease. And an investment
of $5 billion is estimated in FDI .
